At Zellwood, we use the Florida Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (BEST) to guide instruction for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. The Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for Science lay the foundation for Science instruction. Social Studies, Health, Physical Education, Art Education, and Music Education are all guided by Florida State Standards. Teachers utilize technology and present content on SmartBoards while students follow along and engage in tasks, either on paper or digitally, to demonstrate comprehension. We implement the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) protocol in Reading and Math to provide additional instruction for students who demonstrate the need. We also provide individualized instruction for students with unique learning needs. Students engage in digital learning platforms such as Lexia Core 5, Reading Plus, Amira, and SuccessMaker to practice Reading and Math skills at their level. Because we believe readers are leaders, we encourage students to participate in our Accelerated Reader program to increase independent reading skills.
